Design Build Sales Engineer
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Position Overview
We are seeking a professional Design Build Sales Engineer to partner with internal resources and generate opportunities to estimate, propose, and close design-build projects, equipment replacement solutions, and other mid-to-large commercial mechanical projects.
This role is ideal for a technically minded professional who enjoys turning complex building needs into smart, efficient mechanical solutions while building long-term client relationships. In this position, you will serve as a trusted technical consultant for our existing commercial and industrial client base, engineering customized solutions and delivering full MEP capabilities.
Responsibilities and Expectations

Sell design-build projects and engineer customized mechanical solutions for repair and replacement projects across an established commercial and industrial client base.

Conduct thorough client needs analyses, deliver compelling technical presentations, negotiate contract terms, and close sales based on a deep understanding of facility requirements.

Proactively follow up on all sales leads, record all prospects and sales activity in the CRM database, and provide regular status updates to sales and operations leadership.

Actively participate in the estimating process, review final proposal specifications, and engage the Sales Manager and team members throughout the selling process.

Partner with other internal business units to offer comprehensive MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) solutions and ensure all contract requirements are fully understood and implemented.

Review all contracts for accuracy and completeness prior to submitting to operations and accounting, providing project management guidance to ensure a seamless project turnover.

Attend client and job-site meetings alongside operations team members to ensure open, continuous communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Consistently meet or exceed annual sales quotas through proactive networking and relationship building, while participating in trade and vendor training to maintain technical expertise.
Requirements

Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

Minimum 3 years of direct commercial HVAC project sales experience (or related industry sales), OR a minimum of 7 years of experience as a commercial field service technician (prior proven HVAC project sales experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree).

Deep working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical design concepts, and building operational needs.

Strong networking, client identification, negotiating, and closing skills with a proven track record of overcoming client objections and developing persuasive solutions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently while collaborating seamlessly in a team environment.

Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple project proposals and shifting priorities simultaneously.

Proficiency with CRM software, estimation tools, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
